Start your weekend off right with the many events happening on First Friday! First Friday presented by Robins Financial Credit Union is your ticket Downtown Macon, and this month you can join in on the First Friday Fun Zone, the First Friday Garage Meet, and the Jane’s Walk – Tour of Progress.
Lawn games will be set up at the First Friday Fun Zone at Cherry and Third Street from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. Kids and grown-ups are also welcome to make Mother’s Day cards with Rhonda Miller of Thoughts Speak Greeting Cards.
Sponsored by GEICO, come enjoy a night of cars at the First Friday Garage Meet from 6:00 – 10:00 PM! Meet at the top of the public parking deck beside The Douglass Theatre on the corner of MLK Jr. Blvd. and Mulberry Street for a fun night with the Macon community and cars galore.
Learn more about our community by participating in Jane’s Walk, a program organized by Bike Walk Macon! Named for legendary urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walks are citizen-led walking tours that enable citizens to see their city “through other people’s eyes.”
NewTown Macon will host a Tour of Progress Jane’s Walk led by President and CEO, Josh Rogers of NewTown Macon. See the transformation of #DTMac firsthand and learn more about how our historic buildings are being transformed into vibrant spaces to live, work and play. There will be a total of nine stops on this tour on Friday, May 3rd, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

There are also multiple special art and culture events happening on First Friday! Take a stroll through the alleyways and enjoy Bright City, a major public art experience that brings light & photography to Macon’s unique alleyways making them an easier, more vibrant way to explore downtown. Photographs have been turned into light boxes and presented along the brick path of Macon’s 2nd Street Lane. Join The 567 Center for Renewal for the opening of their Best Brush Forward exhibit, featuring artwork by students of painting instructor BSmithBrushworks! You can see the new exhibits and meet the artists from 6:00-9:00 PM. There will also be a new popup exhibit by Don Dougan, Marti Forkner and Micah Goguen opening on Friday at the Macon Arts Gallery! Meet the artist, Jeffrey Whittle, at an opening reception at Macon Arts Alliance from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. You don’t want to miss the inaugural Tubman African American Museum Film Festival! Throughout May 3rd – 5th in historic downtown Macon, there will be screenings of independent documentary films, a gumbo celebration lunch, special screenings of Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities and Always in Season.
