The American folk songs adapted for the score included the traditional ballads “Lily Dale,” “Rosa Lee,” “Joe Bowers,” “Joe the Wrangler,” “She’s More to Be Pitied Than Censured,” “She May Have Seen Better Days” and “Shall We Gather at the River?” Stars: John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Andy Devine.

REAL TALL TALES: Five Short Documentaries by Nik Nerburn at Ampersand Art Guild

Nik Nerburn is a research-based storyteller, experimental historian, filmmaker and photographer. His work often involves essayistic interventions in archival materials to explore regional histories, focusing on stories that stand at the intersection of power, memory, nostalgia, race and place. He’s interested in personal histories, folklore and regionalism, being equally informed by documentary journalism and avant-garde forms. These five short films vary widely in style, but are all united by themes of myth, geography and the high weirdness of rural life.

College of Charleston, in Charleston, SC, and a MS in Art
Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School in
Norfolk, VA.

Opening Reception of Mercer University Student Art Exhibition at 567 Center for Renewal

The April exhibit at The 567 will be the Mercer University Student Art Exhibition, featuring work by graduating art students Brandi Murray, Brittney Murray, and Lauren Light. A variety of mediums will be included in the exhibit. This Friday, come and see the new exhibit, meet the artists, and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibit will be on display April 7-28. The gallery is free and open to the public.

Zumba class with Janice “Zumba Princess” Shephard at Tubman Museum

The fun and energizing Zumba class by Macon’s very own favorite instructor, Janice “The Zumba Princess” Shephard, will be held in front of the Tubman on the Cherry Street Plaza (or in the Peyton Anderson Rotunda during inclement weather). It’s free for Tubman Museum members and $5 for non-members!
